She is a playwright, TV writer and actor from Los Angeles, California but was a long time New Yorker. Her plays have been produced by South Coast Rep, Ma-Yi Theater Company, 2g and Ensemble Studio Theatre. Her work has been developed by The O'Neill Playwrights Conference, the Lark Play Development Center, Partial Comfort and The Women's Project among others. She's published by Samuel French and is an alum of the CTG Writers Workshop and the Ma-Yi Writers Lab. Proud member of New Dramatists and The Kilroys. Carla was a writer on Season Two of USA's Graceland.
Carla discovered the pan-Asian performance collective "Peeling" at the Asian American Writers Workshop and subsequently wrote and performed with them for three years; she still considers this her first theater training.
Her plays include Nomad Motel (CrossRoads Commission from SCR), Fast Company (EST/Sloan Commission; winner of the Edgerton New American Play Award and The Seattle Times’ Footlights Award for Top Play on a Smaller Stage ), TBA, The Sugar House at the Edge of the Wilderness, Dirty, Big Blind/Little Blind, and The Two Kids That Blow Shit Up.[1]
