The stadium was home to many sporting and entertainment events prior to the outbreak.
After the outbreaks began, and the military occupied the city, the National Guard herded at least two thousand civilians into the arena, presumable to use the arena as a refugee center or hospital. However, several of the refugees died and turned. This led to mass panic and the National Guard abandoned the stadium, locking the doors behind them and trapping all of the refugees inside with the infected.
Eventually, Daniel Salazar would open the doors in order to use the herd of infected in his plan to overrun the military compound his wife was being held at, so he could rescue her.
- The real world counterpart for the Stadium is the Pacific Coliseum.
